Project Goal
My goal was to make a one-stop-shop for anyone looking to learn more about dancing.
Target Audience
I targeted a much broader audience when designing this project. This included anyone interesting in learning more about dance and those who wanted to work on their moves.
Key challenges
The biggest challenges were:
Create a design that is easy to follow
Ensure the design was accessible to both young and older users
Research Study Details
Two Usability studies took place:
One for the low fidelity prototype, which was pivotal to shaping our design ideas into something easy to use.
A second usability study was conducted using the high fidelity prototype, which helped us streamline and optimize our earlier concepts.
Initial Design Concepts
I wanted to make sure page/tab count was low to reduce the amount of taps/clicks needed to navigate.
Wireframes
I wanted to give users many ways to filter and find dance content. Playlists allow for users to get continue learning without the need to tend to the media player. The other sections let users choose their desired content amongst videos of similar style and/or genre.
User Testing Results
Users like being able to filter their searches.
Users liked simple designs.
Mockup
Happy with the feedback received from the lofi prototype tests, I wanted to simply build upon what I had and optimize the design visually. I went for a more vibrant aesthetic while keeping everything simple.
Closing Thoughts
Simple and straightforward designing helped appeal to a much broader audience
Optimizing what I had instead of adding more helped prevent the user from getting overwhelmed by choice
